The Vidhyadeep Institute of Science, a constituent of Vidhyadeep University, successfully organized an insightful Expert Talk on the theme “The Chemistry of Choices: Natural Compounds vs. Synthetic Analogues†on 23rd August 2025 at 1:30 pm. The talk was delivered by Mr. Sarthak Shah, a practicing naturopath associated with the Alopecia Treatment Center, Surat. His presence added immense value to the session as he brought both professional expertise and real-world experience in the field of natural health practices. The event was meticulously planned and smoothly executed under the leadership of our I/C Principal, Dr. Pooja Desai. The coordination responsibilities were successfully managed by Ms. Shrishti Tiwari (Co-Coordinator) and Ms. Sweta Gohil (Coordinator), who ensured that every aspect of the program was conducted efficiently. Their efforts contributed greatly to the overall success of the session. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from 32 B.Sc. Science students. These students represented a mix of different academic years, and their curiosity and active involvement enriched the interactive atmosphere. For many, this was not just another academic lecture but a unique opportunity to connect scientific learning with practical life applications. During his presentation, Mr. Shah provided detailed insights into the fundamental differences between natural compounds and their synthetic counterparts. He began by explaining the origins of natural compounds—derived from plants, herbs, and other natural sources—and highlighted how they have been used for centuries in traditional healing practices. In contrast, synthetic analogues are laboratory-created substances designed to mimic or enhance the properties of natural compounds. While synthetic drugs often provide faster results and mass availability, they may also carry risks such as side effects and long-term health impacts. The discussion moved beyond theory, as Mr. Shah carefully illustrated practical applications of both natural and synthetic compounds in everyday health care. He shared examples related to treatments for common conditions, demonstrating how natural remedies can often provide holistic benefits with minimal adverse effects, whereas synthetic drugs, though effective, may sometimes lead to dependency or resistance. His balanced approach helped students understand the importance of making informed choices when it comes to health and wellness. A significant portion of the session focused on raising awareness about the growing relevance of natural remedies in today’s fast-paced world. Mr. Shah emphasized that, while science and technology have advanced to create powerful synthetic alternatives, the natural world continues to offer invaluable solutions that are safer, sustainable, and often more compatible with the human body. This perspective resonated strongly with the students, many of whom showed keen interest in learning about naturopathy as a complementary approach to modern medicine. The talk was highly interactive in nature. Students eagerly participated by asking thoughtful questions, seeking clarifications, and sharing their own viewpoints. Mr. Shah addressed these queries patiently, encouraging students to develop a critical mindset towards evaluating scientific claims and medical options. This open dialogue ensured that the session was not only a one-way delivery of knowledge but a meaningful exchange of ideas. In conclusion, the Expert Talk on “The Chemistry of Choices: Natural Compounds vs. Synthetic Analogues†proved to be an enlightening and enriching experience. It successfully bridged the gap between academic knowledge and practical awareness. Students walked away with a clearer understanding of the value of natural compounds, the potential risks of synthetic alternatives, and the importance of striking a balance between the two. Overall, the event was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the participants and contributing to their holistic academic growth.
